SUMMER CAMP BEHAVIOUR POLICY & EXPECTATIONS

Summer Camp is a fun and engaging way for a child to spend their summer break. We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all campers, staff, and volunteers. To ensure that everyone has a positive experience, we have established the following behaviour policy.

  1. Respect: Campers are expected to treat everyone with respect, including fellow campers, staff members, and volunteers. This includes using kind words, listening attentively when others speak, and respecting personal space. We have a zero-tolerance policy for violent and aggressive behaviour.

  2.  Safety: Safety is our top priority. Campers must follow all safety instructions provided by staff members. This includes following proper procedures during activities, wearing appropriate safety gear, and reporting hazards or concerns to a staff member immediately.

  3.  Co-operation: Campers are encouraged to co-operate with each other and participate in camp activities. Cooperation includes working together as a team, sharing resources, and supporting each other's efforts. We encourage the children to participate in all games and other camp activities.

  4.  Communication & Comfort: Providing a comfortable, safe and inclusive environment for all campers and staff members is very important to us. Campers are encouraged to communicate openly with staff members about successes and concerns. If a camper needs someone to talk to, we hope that the staff members can be there for them.

Consequences for Violating the Behaviour Policy:

  • Verbal Warning: Campers will get a verbal warning for misbehaviour; we will do two before we take further action. For example, if a child is having a tantrum we will give them two warnings.

  • Time Out: In cases of continued or more serious misbehaviour, campers may be given a time out. A time-out will happen when the child has been given the opportunity to stop misbehaving through a verbal warning and continue the behaviour.

  •  Parent/Guardian Contact: If a camper's behaviour persists despite warnings and time outs, their parents/guardian will be contacted to discuss the situation. In this case the child will be sent home depending on what has happened. For example, if the child is bullying another child and has been given warnings and a time-out, then the child’s parent/guardian will be contacted. We require that a parent/guardian is available and reachable by phone during camp hours should an issue arise. If a child needs to leave camp for any reason, they will be required to pick up the child.

Thank you for your co-operation. We are looking forward to the fun, exciting times ahead!
