Invasive Species Education Day at Lake Minnewasta

  • Lake Minnewasta Canada (map)

The Stanley Trail Association, in partnership with the City of Morden Dept of Parks and Urban Forestry, and Trans Canada Trail is hosting an Invasive Plant Species Education Day at Lake Minnewasta, meeting at the old boat/canoe launch on June 06 2024.

The June 6th event kicks off a 2024 European Buckthorn (Tier 3 Invasive Species) Remove and Replace project, followed by a work day on June 22 2024. (Ongoing annual maintenance will ensure the success of the project!)

The goal is to remediate a 250 m section of European Buckthorn Infestation on the North shore of Lake Minnewasta, then restore, replace, and maintain with new Native Plant material. Hard costs are supported by the City of Morden and a 2024 Trans Canada Trail Grant. This action is required to prevent the eventual complete loss of native plant diversity and maintain the integrity of this designated natural area.

Volunteers Needed!

Join us in making a difference! We're calling on community members to help remove invasive species. Your hands-on help is crucial for the restoration effort!
